They can go where they want to go when they want to go, and it does save them a lot of money. You can live on one side of Lake Tahoe and pay no taxes versus the other side of Lake Tahoe and pay California taxes, which is around 12%. People with means absolutely find themselves going to Florida, but I don't think it's just for the money. We always tell people that being audited for residency is kind of like the tax version of a colonoscopy. Here in New York City, the top 1% of the taxpayers pay almost 50% of the New York City income tax.

A Florida woman who stole and then sold a diary and other items belonging to Ashley Biden — the daughter of President Joe Biden — to a right-wing media group weeks before the 2020 election was sentenced Tuesday to one month in federal jail and three months of home detention. Prosecutors had asked that Harris be sentenced to between four to 10 months in jail, as recommended by federal sentencing guidelines. Although Swain gave Harris a lighter sentence than prosecutors wanted, she called Harris' conduct "despicable," according to the AP. Kurlander, who pleaded guilty at the same time as Harris did, currently is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 25 by Swain.

Travelers are looking to cruises in 2024 because they are still cheaper than land-based alternatives. With occupancy levels approaching pre-pandemic levels, operators plan to hike prices in coming months. "Overall the market is extremely strong, especially the top end of the market in terms of the most high-end luxury cruises," said Bob Levinstein, CEO of cruise marketplace Cruise Compete. Even as travelers have canceled or postponed planned vacations to the Middle East, cruise bookings will still hit record levels in 2024, said Truist Securities analyst Patrick Scholes. Walking your dog is a fantastic way to get in shape, and it benefits both you and your pooch. Biking, for example, is much easier for the human who is peddling than the dog that’s running. “I see people riding bikes with a dog, and the dog is gasping for breath and limping,” Tomasino said. “If another dog is coming at you, for example, that’s dangerous for you and the dog. “Exercising is really good bonding for you and your dog, as long as you stay off your phone,” Celapino said.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A privately owned high-speed passenger train service launched Friday between Florida's two biggest tourist hubs. The Brightline train is a $5 billion bet by owner Fortress Investment Group that eventually 8 million people annually will take the 3.5-hour, 235-mile (378-kilometer) trip between Miami and Orlando — about 30 minutes less than the average drive. Brightline, which began running its neon-yellow trains the 70 miles (112 kilometers) between Miami and West Palm Beach in 2018, is the first private intercity passenger service to begin U.S. operations in a century. The death is the privately owned railroad’s 12th in 2023 and its 98th since July 2017. The only other U.S. high-speed line is Amtrak’s Acela service between Boston and Washington, D.C., which began in 2000.

You don't get the best first-half Nasdaq rally in 40 years simply because the Federal Reserve did this, or the yield curve in the bond market did that. It was almost as if it was prosaic to seek profits, like, "How dare you defy the teachings of the yield curve, you foolish soon-to-be- broke apostate." It was the second move, the second week of March, that told the second tale of the first half: the fall of Silicon Valley Bank. Here we had an out-of-nowhere collapse of a well-known seemingly well-run bank that ran afoul, again, of the yield curve. No company could rival Club stocks Apple (AAPL), Alphabet (GOOGL), Amazon (AMZN), Microsoft and Meta Platforms (META) — nice metamorphous there and Tesla , not a Club name.

To the Editor:Re “The Text That Got Carlson Dismissed” (Business, May 3):How ironic that a text that included an unapologetic racist’s epiphany as to our common humanity was one of the causes for his firing. The trigger was Tucker Carlson’s comment that “it’s not how white men fight,” but his acknowledgment and repudiation of his own lust for the Trump mob to kill the “Antifa kid” showed an honesty and reflection absent among his fellow TV personalities on Fox. Michael K. CantwellDelray Beach, Fla.To the Editor:Your article correctly emphasized the racism inherent in the text message but completely failed to emphasize the human being who tried to identify with the victim and realized that the lust for violence was worth questioning. Did you decide that given his history, Tucker Carlson does not deserve any recognition for what was clearly an internal struggle with morality? If so, you may be right, but you have also done a significant disservice by not recognizing that very act as essential to our common survival.

You have to be a fairly committed tennis follower to already know the story of Matija Pecotić, but that may change soon. In February, Pecotić, a crafty Croatian left-hander born in Belgrade and raised in Malta, notched his first-ever victory in an ATP Tour main draw when he defeated former top-10 player Jack Sock at a tournament in Delray Beach, Florida. It was a nice breakthrough win.
